Why Do You Do Exactly What You Did Yesterday, Even Though Yesterday Was Crap?

By Craig Harper

So, How's Your Life?

Just asking.
Do your best to answer that question honestly and courageously. If you can, avoid the flippant, generic ("great thanks Craig") response. Think carefully for a minute and give your authentic answer; the truth behind the 'you show'. If you are great then that's... great. Good for you. You can come back tomorrow. If you're not great, then that's okay too. I'm not asking you to be a victim, just honest. Aware.

Mouse on a Wheel

Right now, are you where you want to be mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, financially, socially and practically? Are you managing your life or is it managing you? Are you the controller or the controlled? Are you living proactively or reactively? Consciously or unconsciously? Are you making do or making a difference? Are you doing different to create different or are you like the mouse on the wheel?

The truth is that many people will get out of bed today and do exactly what they did yesterday, even though yesterday was crap. Yes, we humans are very predictable and habitual creatures. In fact, some people will get out of bed and do what they did last week, last month and sometimes, last decade, even though they've been complaining about their life for years.

Complaining but not changing. Hoping that things will 'somehow' work themselves out. As they do.
Not.

Truth 1: Many people are unhappy and unfulfilled because they keep doing what doesn't work. And if nothing changes (attitude, behaviour), then nothing changes (results, reality).

A Rhyme and Reason

Could you imagine building a house with no plans? No checks? No assessments along the way? Could you see yourself getting up each day and pouring concrete, cutting timber, hammering nails, laying bricks, hanging plaster and building your new home with no rhyme, reason, strategy or logical process? That place would surely look disastrous. It couldn't possibly function properly. It would be dangerous. Unstable. Sooner or later, it would fall down. And, if you happened to find yourself in the middle of it, you would be hurt.
For some of us, that house is our life.

Truth 2: Success is not random or accidental. We don't deserve it, we create.

Here's What I Know About You

I know that you've read enough, heard enough and learned enough. I also know that right now you have enough talent, time and skill to transform your life. Even if you don't believe it. Of course, I acknowledge that the transformational journey might not necessarily be a quick, easy or painless process but right now I'm not talking about what's easy, I'm talking about what's possible for you. Could you learn more, know more and understand more? Yes, we all could. But the smart question here is: In the quest for a better life (your better life), what will create positive shift in your world - more theory or more doing?

More information or more application?

The fact that you're reading this article tells me that you're probably educated, intelligent and wanting to change something (or things) about your life. It also tells me that (statistically) you've probably read many similar personal-development-type articles. And I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that you might have a history of over-thinking, under-doing, not completing stuff and wasting much of your considerable potential.
Or, I could be totally wrong.

Truth 3: Knowing (what to do), hoping (it will happen), wanting (to change) and intending (to take action) isn't enough. Transformation lives in the consistent and courageous application of the information.

Here's What I Don't Know About You

Everything comes at a cost. I don't know if you're ready to pay the price of change. To get uncomfortable enough. To ask the hard questions and make the tough decisions. To finish what you start, even when it hurts. To be honest enough - with yourself and others. To step out of the theory of success and into the messy reality of it. To do what most people won't. To persevere when, previously, you would have given up. To choose your own rules, beliefs, values and standards. To be you, no matter what.

I don't know if you're willing to step out of your 'safe' mindset and into the vast expanse of uncertainty and excitement that lives in the exploring of your potential and the building of your best life.

I don't know but you do.

Truth 4: In the pursuit of success (whatever that means for you), the only person who can get in your way, is you.

Peace.

The Only Way of Making it to the Top

By Dr. Raymond Comeau

Hate to tell you this, but unless you enjoy doing what you do, there is no way that you can make it to the top and even if you defied all odds and actually made it... it would not be worth it. Rule number one for true success is: enjoy yourself.

That's a lesson that I learned from a top-notch consultant named Dr. David Singer at a seminar in Chicago Illinois. It's a lesson that turned my life around and literally transformed everything in it. That incident happened over two decades ago and I can still remember it as if it was yesterday.

Unless you're having fun doing what you do, you simply cannot perform at your highest level. The adrenalin, the energy and the enthusiasm simply are not there. That's true in any area of our life. We always perform better when we're having fun.

Moods are not only felt at the cognitive level, they have their physical counterparts. Basically, negative moods tend to contract and slowdown the various physical processes whereas positive and uplifting moods tend to favor free flow in the exchanges of body chemicals along with overall relaxation.

A cheerful mind is not cluttered with fears, doubts, worries and negativities so it naturally performs better, tends to be more alert and productive. Peace of mind fosters clarity and insight as it sharpens the imagination and heightens creativity.

In one word, to perform at peak level, we must be in a peak state of mind. The level of effectiveness is directly proportional to the state of mind. Great state of mind equals high effectiveness; lousy state of mind equals poor performances.

The question then becomes, "How can we influence our state of mind so that it's always at peak level when we most need it?"

The first thing that must be done is to adhere to the fundamental belief that a true professional, in any area of endeavor, has it in his power to master his emotions when the need to do it is important. It's a question of character and integrity.

An emotion is nothing more than a neurological circuit in the brain that has been activated by inside or outside influences. Self-mastery is the ability to determine which circuit will be activated and thus, which emotion will be felt. That type of self-mastery is something that can be learned through discipline and practice.
It is in our power to feel good whenever we want. All that needs to be done is to focus on what makes us happy. There is nothing esoteric about that and it is something that must be learned and mastered if we really wish to become all that we can be.

Shakespeare said, "Noting is either good or bad, but thinking makes it so." That is especially true when it comes to our career or the job that we do. We are the ones who are responsible to determine how chose to see our occupation.

There are no insignificant jobs; there are only insignificant people. Anything worth being done can provide value and satisfaction. It's our responsibility to find out how that can be accomplished. That fact is well illustrated in the following anecdote.

Three workers on an excavation site were asked, what they were doing. The first said, "I'm digging a hole." The second said, "I'm making $25.00 an hour." The third, an impressive young man said, "I'm building the world's most sophisticated research hospital. It will help to cure children from all over the world for years to come." Guess who got more satisfaction out of his job?

If we want to make it to the top, if we want to become all that we can be, if we want to have a meaningful life, we must enjoy doing what we do. It's not only the best way; it's the only way. It might require some imagination and some soul searching to accomplish that, but it's certain worth the efforts.

Do You Want To Be Successful? Read This

In fact, studies have shown that anyone can be successful if they wanted to. And this article will prove to you that you can accomplish your goals and achieve all your dreams. So continue to read on and you will discover the secrets to living your ultimate life.

Do you think that success needs education, capital, time, talent, skills, ability, luck and more? Actually, it is true that you need a little bit of all the above, however, there are many other extraordinary people have proven to us that even they are dropouts from their college, they still can achieve great results in life.

The same goes for capital. A lot of great business people started with absolutely nothing and they end up creating a great business. What about talent, skills and ability? These are learn-able as long as you have the persistent to practice them. Whereas for luck, successful people do not count luck into the game. For them, it is a number's game and it is not about luck.

So now you understand that why anyone can be successful if they wanted to. As long as you are clear with what you want to achieve, keep it in your mind all the time, plan for it and take massive solid action upon it, you will eventually accomplish what you want.

Now, look at the ratio of ordinary people and extraordinary people. Of all the people out there, only about 20 percent of them are successful. The same goes in every industry. In sales, there are only about 20 percent who are making the 80 percent of the money. Same condition in other industries as well. Therefore, your goal is to differentiate yourself by moving into the top 20 percent in your industry.

Do you think that it is something possible for you to become the top 20 percent in your field? The answer is an absolute yes. For those who are earning $100k per month and those who are earning $2k per month, what is the difference between them? If those who earn $2k per month spend 8 hours per day into working, does that mean that those who earn $100k per month work 24 hours a day? You know the answer.

So what is the difference between the top 20 percent and the bottom 80 percent? The secret is this; people who are in the top 20 percent do their things a little bit different from the rest. They have a clear target to achieve and they know where they want to go. They work a little harder and they plan for their lives. They ask more questions to learn more and they consistently strive to improve their lives. And most importantly, they have a strong desire to stay in the top 20 percent.

This is what separates great from ordinary. Therefore, if you want to be extraordinary and successful today, put yourself into the 20 percent and ask them what they did so that you can replicate their results.
